Collection: Birch Collection
Birch was and is of great importance to the indigenous peoples due to it’s tough, flexible and waterproof sheets of bark. It was used to everything from papering canoes, baskets, medicine and artwork. Birch is symbolic of beginnings, renewals and starting over.
I was born in the Northwest Territories, Yellowknife. My earliest memories are of birch, pine and spruce trees. My mother always took us to the cabin north of Yellowknife. I remember never straying far from my mother in fear of being lost in the dark, quiet woods. Now I miss the quiet, the creaks and the never-ending forest.
My birch tree collection is inspired by my time in the north. The color teal means calmness, uniqueness and creative expressions. Birch to me is the north, winter, shadows, memory’s, whispers and the wild.
The Birch Tree Collection is ongoing with new pieces added throughout the year.
